Fall Arrest Systems

Fall Arrest Systems

Employers with workers in high places such as construction sites are required by OSHA to equip all employees with industrial safety devices. Fall arrest systems are one such device that is used on many job sites. Purchasing a quality system is essential for the protection of your employees.

  • Some characteristics to look for when selecting a fall protection system include:
  • equipped to stop workers from falling no more than 6 feet
  • able to bring the person falling to a complete stop
  • strong enough to handle the impact of twice the force of a worker falling from 6 feet

If a system has been used in a fall, it should be removed from service until it has been inspected for damage. It is also important to have a rescue plan in place in case of a fall. Employees must be quickly assisted after a fall. Portable emergency communications solutions may need to be in place to ensure a quick recovery of the worker. It is also advisable to carefully inspect each device prior to use to ensure that there is no damage or wear that may put the employee in danger in the future. Be sure to connect these systems to a connection point that can absorb the full shock of a fall (typically at least 5000 lbs of pull strength is required), not a guardrail or a hoist of any type. When wearing the arrest system, the employee should only be able to move as far as the walking area goes.

Portable Emergency Communications Solutions

Every business owner and manager hopes that his or her company will never have to face a real emergency situation. Careful planning and precautions can go a long way but cannot prevent all emergencies. In the event that your corporation faces a real crisis such as a natural disaster, act of violence, or tragic accident, you will want to be prepared for any situation that may arise.

Portable emergency communications solutions can help ensure that your team has constant communication with each member and the proper authorities in the event of an emergency. As with the fall arrest systems, you hope you never need the communications systems, but you should consider the consequences if you choose not to implement their use. A lack of communication can be extremely dangerous in an emergency and these systems can eliminate this hazard.
